Post subject:  Hobie 18 or 18SX

Hello

I'm looking at a used Hobie 18, the add says 2009 but I thought they stopped making 18's in the early 2000's. Is this maybe a 18SX?
I'll find out more info in a couple days, just thought I would get some background before I talk to the owner.

The add has been taken down so I can't post actual pictures but I found this on the internet. Its very close to this but the 18 is black. It does not have the 18SX. The boat is in Canada so I assume its a NA model.

Thanks

Hard to say exactly what you’re looking at without seeing a picture of the actual boat. The boat shown in your post looks to be a Hobie SX 18 with a Hobie Tiger mainsail.

The Hobie 18/SX18 was discontinued in North America around 2003/2004. Hobie made a run of new hulls around 2010. Anyway, it is very common for people to put the wrong year of manufacture in for sale ads. Check the HIN etched in the transom to know for sure.

If the boat has a Mylar sail then very likely it is an 18SX. Bring a tape measure to check the mast’s length - 28’ for an 18, and 29’ 6” for an SX.
