The sub-tropical environment of South Florida enables many different exotic fish species to survive in the many scattered creeks, canals and lakes. Occasionally, I enjoy the adventure of finding remote areas and trekking out away from the crowded saltwater flats in favor of areas that are better known for their world class trophy largemouth bass fishing.
The IFA Kayak Championship tournament was in Houma, LA this year, and we had a great opportunity to capitalize on some of the great fishing these bull reds would offer.
Brendan Bayard, of Baton Rouge, La., won the Overall Angler of the Year Award for the Inshore Fishing Association (IFA) Kayak Tour presented by Hobie Fishing. The angler received paid entry fees for one division in 2014 and $1,000 from Hobie for his accomplishment.
