On Saturday, April Zilg and 399 other stand up paddleboard racers lined up to take on the currents at the inaugural Bay Bridge Paddle. The course had the elite racers challenge the currents of the Chesapeake Bay. They followed the bridge from the west shore 9 miles to the eastern side – a challenging, thrilling crossing.

When it was over, April and her custom Apex had earned a clean sweep of the 12’6” board class – and 11th overall.

“This was a super fun race with some really challenging conditions as the tides ripped around the bases of the Bay Bridge. The tide combined with a light cross-wind kept the race super interesting, but my board handled everything smoothly. I’m happy with a first overall finish for 12’6” men’s and women’s,” April said.

April and Hobie Boardsports teammates Martin Letourneur and Lexi Alston will take on the European SUP tour next.
